Abstract: THE IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS ON FUND ACCOUNTING

This research aims to: (1) evaluate the influence of environmental factors on fund accounting practices; (2) assess the impact of environmental risks on financial reporting and fund performance; and (3) explore the role of fund accountants in managing environmental risks. A survey research design was selected to collect data from industry professionals. Using Taro Yamane's formula, a sample size of 280 fund accountants and investment managers from Abuja, Nigeria, was determined to be sufficient. The study focuses on a major investment firm in Abuja that has integrated environmental risk management into its accounting practices. A reliability coefficient score of 0.87 was achieved, indicating the reliability of the survey tool. Findings suggest that environmental factors significantly impact fund accounting, requiring enhanced risk assessment and reporting measures. The study identifies challenges such as the complexity of quantifying environmental risks and the lack of standardized reporting frameworks. Recommendations include developing standardized guidelines for environmental risk reporting, providing training for fund accountants on environmental issues, and adopting advanced tools for environmental risk assessment and management.
